thebrewingmanGood29 Mar 2013 A black bitter. I think it has lost its way a bit and doesn't know what it wants to be.

AndrewExceptional28 Mar 2013 Wow. As good as the last time I had it in the Mogul in Dover 10 years ago. Roasted honey richness with burnt treacle bitter finish

Martin the MildmanAcceptable18 Dec 2012 Hoppy black beer, but without any malt flavours to speak of. Dry, hoppy finish. My score 14/20.

Bear & Ragged StaffExceptional09 Feb 2012 When I tried Black Ice before, it was a fresh barrel. This was reflected by the crisp, fresh flavours. The pint I had today was from a barrel that has been on for six days. What a revelation, the flavours had become roumded and smooth and a momentary grassy sweetness had developed. Absolutely delicious. If I remeber correctly, Titanic Plum Porter was at its best after several days.
Bear & Ragged StaffExcellent05 Feb 2012 Dark and full of flavour without being overpowering. Not too sweet and a reasonable bitter finish. Excellent.
Bear & Ragged StaffExcellent11 Mar 2011 Wonderful dark flavours, well balanced and good body. Lives up to its notoriety.

IanExceptional22 Jan 2010 Just one of the best cask beers in Britain, why isn't this brewed more? The malts, the mouthfeel the hops on the end? great.

IanExceptional18 Jan 2010 I wish I could say why this beer is so good. Aroma is just right in terms of roasted malt and a little bit of hop, but it's not a big or huge aroma, the body though is where it wins so well, the mouthfeel is simply sublime, I don't know any other dark beer that has such a great blend of dry malts and roasted malts and juiciness. Then the finish has a little hop, a little black cherry. As I say I don't know a beer like it.
IanExceptional17 Jan 2010 8 years since I last had it and it is still one of the best dark beers I've ever had. Good choc, black cherry, good solid choc cake sponge like malts, decent burnt finish.
