Came here on Saturday evening with Andrew and Martin on the very regular bus service from Canterbury. And what a great evening. Pub is small enough to be intimate and the conversation is excellent. 4 beers on, all extremely good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - JHB3.80ExcellentLike Andrew with Goacher's Mild, I am so critical of this beer, because I like it so much and I've had many pints of it in all sorts of conditions. Still this was excellent and I stayed on this all evening as it was so good. Pale gold, aromatic US hops and a taste that makes you come back for more.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Not TriedThe sip from Andrew's pint held the typical Harvey's flavours but also a bit deeper on the malts.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30Not TriedHad a sip of Andrew's and it was on fine form
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50Not TriedAgain a sip from Andrew's pint was good, but maybe a bit too strong and syrupy for me. Nice strawberry and raisin fruit though

Arived on a baking day just before evening opening. This is a great pub. It's about the size of a bath tub which means you get to talk to virtually eveybody in the pub without having to move.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - JHB3.80ExcellentA bit too cold but very drinkable.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentAgain, a bit too cold. Good harvey's syrupy yeast taste.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30ExcellentAgain, a bit too cold but clean and crisp.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50ExcellentAgain, a bit too cold. Nice rich fruit flavours with the hard hit of 5.5%

Just one other local in when I arrived for a pint of JHB and to pick up some take home for later consumption. Must come here for a session one Saturday. Still very good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - JHB3.80ExcellentHad a pint whilst at the pub, which was good but just lacking its usual clarity of flavours. However, the take home I had the next day was absolutely superb.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70ExcellentI had the first and last of this barrel over a 3 week period. The last 3.5 pint bottle, the landlord had been keeping for another customer, but let me have it instead as I liked it so much. Still had great hops, but just a little tired from its supreme freshness when I first had it.

Absolutely heaving. Having said that it's not a big place but even still it was a struggle to get in. Good friendly atmosphere. Must come here for a session
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale3.40GoodNow my problem with scoring Goacher's Mild is that it's my favourite beer and I've had it when it's on top-form so I know exactly what it can taste like. However, I fully recognise it can't always taste fantastic. Anyway, this was good. Lots of coffee and a bitter sweet finish.

I can't believe that it has taken me this long to visit here since it became a pub. I am almost ashamed of myself. It is still a fairly small room, but there are a couple of tables and a bench seat on the wall. Apparently a local was telling me that they got 23 people in there one night. Now that would have been a squeeze. 4 others customers came in after I arrived. I really liked this place as a pub and I will definitely come back to do a session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - JHB3.80ExceptionalPale gold with a lasting white head. Stunning grapefruit, tangerine aroma, plenty of hops. Good and juicy in mouth with distinctive hop finish. Just a stunning beer. My favourite beer and in this condition was unsurpassable.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70ExceptionalThe landlord tapped this and gave us a sample before I bought it. And what a huge beer this is. I had this in the Wenlock Arms a couple of weeks back and could only give it a 4/5, but this is better. Strong intense American hop aroma. Good juicy pale malt in the mouth, shebert in mouth and then this harsh strong intense grapefruit on the finish. Very dry. Even better at home. Massive hops. But I love it. Not exactly a session beer, but certainly has a huge flavour.

Popped in to pick up a take-out and found a couple of drinkers in from Deal having a pint. Must come here one day for a session. Great place.

Early evening and there were 3 people in drinking. It officially opens as a pub next week and I'm sure it will be a good one too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Larkins - Porter5.20ExceptionalDark red black in colour. The aroma is of coffee and milk and the initial taste is sweet and milky but quickly followed by a tart bitter burnt coffee flavour. The finish is sweet acrid and burnt with the mouth left buzzing.

According to Martin the owner, this will be transformed into a pub on 26th November and we wish him every success. Had 3 beers on and as usual all in good nick.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Woodforde's - Wherry3.80ExcellentBrown bitter with really good citrus notes throughout. Very suppable session bitter. Hops are excellent
Whitstable - Oyster Stout4.50GoodBlack beer with thin beige head. Lots of chocolate and molasses and richness that comes from the oysters. Some acids to balance the richness.

The owner told me that his application to become a pub in November had been passed which is good news. Also, the Larkin's Porter will be coming on in November too, which is even better news!
