Managed to lose Pete and Mark in here and looking at the time I realised I only had 5 minutes before the bus went anyway.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nelson - Loose Cannon4.30Not TriedThe main beer of note that I could see on though the crowds
23 Nov 2007 (Andrew)
Busy-ish lunch time. Lots of Nelson and Welton's beers on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nelson - Pieces of Eight3.80ExcellentSmoaky. Don't remember it being smoaky before. Anyway, lovely smoaky flavours.
16 Nov 2007 (Andrew)
Here with Mr. Harris for a spot of business. Busy with lunchtime drinkers. Got a booth though, eventually.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hanlons (formerly O'Hanlon's) - Dry Stout4.20ExcellentBlack with no real head. Dry but with a plumey-dark-fruit flavour. Good burnt malt and a powdery feel. Excellent stuff

Busy Wetherspoons and the better of the two in Canterbury.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Exmoor - Fox4.20AcceptableGold with thick lastnig beige head. Never sure in a Spoons if this is how the beer is supposed to taste. Good condition. Fine bitter, nothing out of place, but nothing remarkable either. English hops are ok, earthy, bit of tingle on end, faint citrus. Malts give mouthfeel fullness. Yeasty/citrus aroma. Fine.
20 May 2007 (Ian)
After seeing Kent humiliate Glamorgan inside of 4 hours of a 50 over a side game, I came here. More or less full mid Sunday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wem (formerly Hanby) - Scorpio Porter4.50AcceptableDark ruby, lasting beige head. Some choc, reasonable fullness, some malt/cereal character. Choc is sweetish Cadbury Dairy Milk in mouth, dryer on finish with some grainyness. Fine, but too sweet.

True the food is cheap. True the beer is cheap. True this pub normally has a handful of guests in good condition. But the service is apalling. As a customer service manager myself there was one member of staff who I would have disciplined immediately due to his lack of professionalism in front of customers. But hey.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cotleigh - Red Nose Reinbeer4.50AcceptableBetter in the Spoons in Ashford. This was lacking flavour.
27 Dec 2006 (Andrew)
There's usually something on of interest here and the quality is usually quite good too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rebellion - Sleighed4.20GoodBiscuity, buttery (Ian reckons it's diacetyl), and watery golden beer.

Sunday lunchtime and unsurprisingly, it was very full, but I just got a table. I ordered the sunday roast and settled back for some beers whilst I read my book. As seems usual now, although all of the handpumps were showing beer available on the pump clips, not all of the beers were actually available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Red Breast4.50GoodRuby colour with lasting dark beige head. Soft in mouth, goodish malts, some choc. Reasonable condition, bit of dryness on end, from malt and hop. Nice dark fruit, dark plums and choc on aroma. Blackberry fruit too. Drinkable.
Thwaites - Good Elf4.90AcceptableVery deep ruby with thin tan head. Soft and choccy beer. Goodish choccy malts, some dark fruits. Bit of sour yeast on aroma. Not much evidence of hop. Much the same flavours on a very short finish.
Brouwerij Het Anker - Gouden Carolus Festive Spice5.50AcceptableGold colour with thin white head. Spicey aroma, like cinnamon. Soft golden ale in mouth. Then Belgian yeast kicks in. Spice and Belgian yeast aroma. Spicey pale fruits in mouth. Bit of green apple. Some syrupy fruit in mouth. Finish has yeast, pale fruit and some tangy hop. OK, if not wonderful.

Here with Ian early evening and it's fairly empty. The staff are all dressed up as Halloween characters.
BeerABVScoreNotes
