Hogan Sampling		08 Sep 2026	2nd beer of this visit: Fresh on and exhibiting a good-looking head and lasting lacing on this Northfleet stout with brewing just outside Gravesend named after the town's historic pier, the oldest remaining cast-iron pier in the world. Production of its first beer took place in January 2018. A chocolatey first hit. A dry bitter maltiness rising from its 7 different malts: Simpsons Finest Pale Maris Otter, Dextrin Malt, Amber Malt, Brown Malt, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, and TMM Jumbo Oat Flakes. Delighting my taste buddies were the flavours of dark bread, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, and a milky bitter coffee thrown in with a hint of liquorice. A distant hoppy note calling out from the addition of Admiral behind orange peel, citrus and fresh orange flavours mixed with an earthy herbal spice, resin and a subtle woodiness, before the sail downwards with a roasty bitterness lingering. Served in top nick.

Hogan Sampling		29 Mar 2026	2nd beer of this visit: Second day on for this Northfleet-brewed stout from just outside Gravesend with its creamy head and lacing lasting most of the way down the glass. A smokiness on its first bite. A dry bitter maltiness dancing on my taste buds from its Maris Otter, Brown, Amber, Roasted Barley, Black, Chocolate, and Dextrin, making it a mix of 7 different malts. A hint of caramelised sweetness and a touch of vanilla in its flavourings. That same dry hoppiness from its Admiral and First Gold hops paddling out. Still in good condition and a pleasure on my palate to sup.
Hogan Sampling		28 Mar 2026	2nd beer of this visit: Fresh on today was this Northfleet-brewed stout from just outside Gravesend and presenting very good head and lacing with a cappuccino-style creamy top but not overly lasting. A dark fruited maltiness on the first hit from its 7 different malts. Chocolate and coffee bean aromas rising and inspired by traditional Victorian stout recipes. Subtle hints of sweet vanilla. A dry hoppiness winning over from its Admiral and First Gold hops before its descent. Served in good nick and very moreish to my taste buds.

Hogan Sampling		30 Sep 2025	Fifth night on for this Gravesend stout from Northfleet and although some head and lacing to start with, it needed a good few decants to restore any head on it and then only momentarily. Rather overly chocolatey for my taste buds on its first bite. A definite maltiness rising up from its 7 different malts used. Coffee notes battled among the chocolatey ones in its downward passage but a mere half sufficed as rather too sweet for me.

Hogan Sampling		26 Sep 2025	Fresh on is this Gravesend stout from Northfleet. Very good head and lacing and but sadly not lasting and so needing a good few decants to restore it. A malty first bite care of its 7 different malts used. Coffee and chocolatey flavourings rapidly rising with a malty bitterness living on in its aftertaste.
