Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Citric hop and strawberry malt aroma. Fullish in mouth with strawberry caramel/hop and more strawberry fudge on teh end. Wonderful

WittendenExceptional01 Jan 2012 A lovely grassy, biscuity IPA. One of my favourite Kentish beers at the moment.

WittendenExceptional26 Sep 2010 Perhaps more to my regular taste than the APA: a good honest mid brown fruity beer with a profound hoppy finish.

BlairExcellent13 Nov 2008 I'm always happy when I see this on in a pub, one of the first ales I ever got a taste for. This was in great nick, malty with that odd yet inoffensive metallic flavour. Top stuff.
BlairGood31 Jul 2008 Has the usual maltiness and the slightly metallice edge. Not as great as it shud be though. Still a pleasant brew though.

AndrewGood19 Nov 2006 Even though this was the last coughings from the barrel it was good. Much more malt in the flavour than usual and the hops were much more earthy and brown leafy but I put all this down to it being bottom of the barrel.
IanExcellent28 Oct 2006 One of the nicest pints of Skrimshander that I've had in ages. Lovely red fruit malts/rich. But with balancing earthy hop. Classy

CharlesExcellent29 Jul 2009 Wow - this was really lovely. So nice I didn't try any of the others. Badges on the hand pulls but all of the beer is brought from the back room - straight from the barrels.

AndrewGood16 Jul 2008 Nice. Good reedy malt with some nice earthy hops and a bit of brown sugar and a hint of caramel. Yeah, nice.

BrianExcellent10 Aug 2005 Lovely dark brown bitter, best pint I've had for a while
IanExcellent16 Jul 2005 Although this beer was not on yet, Ruth behind the bar let me have a pint, which was very kind of her. Raspberry fruit and good hops. Gorgeous top of the barrel beer

BrianGood12 Apr 2008 Clear, mid brown/golden. Thin, bubbly disappearing head. A touch too cold to begin with, but a good fruit/malt balance. A bit watery in the mouth and missing the sweet floral notes it used to have.
AndrewAcceptable23 Feb 2008 This wasn't off but it certainly didn't taste like Skrimshander. I don't know if it was bottom of the barrel but it tasted like a cross between Skrimshander and Old Peculier. Shame as Skrimshander's usually lovely

AdrianExcellent17 May 2007 Light and refreshing
BrianAcceptable17 Mar 2007 OK. Too cold to start and a bit flat and lifeless, but there was still a hint of the usual citrus bite and bitter hop. OK but I've had a lot better.
AndrewGood17 Mar 2007 Nice and hoppy with some malt. Must have been the end of the barrel as they took it off soon after they poured mine

AndrewExcellent07 Jan 2006 Rich lychee and subtle strawberry flavours made this well balanced beer a treat. The finish was good and bitter.
AndrewGood19 Nov 2005 Good bitterness and that rich Hopdaemon taste. Perhaps one for a hot day.
BrianExceptional19 Nov 2005 At risk of repeating myself, but this is great. A full citrus flavour that lingers. Charlie said it had a bit of a haze to it but it seemed perfect to me.
BrianAcceptable23 Sep 2005 Not up to the usual excellent standard, but OK.
BrianExcellent10 Sep 2005 Excellent as usual
AndrewNot Tried04 Sep 2005 Just went off as I walked in and the next barrel wasn't ready yet. Shame.
BrianAcceptable27 Aug 2005 Seemed OK, maybe a little tired, but it turned out to be the last pint from the barrel
BrianExceptional27 Aug 2005 Second pint out of the barrel! Full of flavour, creamy in the mouth and fantastic hoppy bite in the aftertaste. In my opinion, exactly what a Kentish beer, served in the heart of Kent should taste like.
AndrewExcellent27 Aug 2005 Hoppy with a smooth malt finish. Very drinkable
AndrewAcceptable20 Aug 2005 Bit cloudy because he was having problems with the beer engine but it tasted its usual soapy rich hoppiness.
BrianExceptional13 Aug 2005 Fantastic beer, lovely hoppy aroma and full of taste.
