Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Full malts in mouth, some syrupyness and then sweet hop finish. The finish was just slightly dusty too which took the edge off it being a 4/5

IanExcellent15 Apr 2006 When I got to Chambers I didn't realise the festival was at the back, so I started with a pint of this. They were cleaning the lines, so I had this on gravity from the cask. Citric hop and strawberry malt aroma. Fullish in mouth with strawberry caramel/hop and more strawberry fudge on teh end. Wonderful
AndrewGood04 Feb 2006 Rich bitter with good ballance between hops and malt. Hints of tangerine and grapefruit

IanExcellent16 Aug 2005 Great pint. Lots of fruit and hops.
IanExcellent29 Jun 2005 Really good berry fruit on this, lots of raspberry and strawberry with good floral hops to balance that give a good hit of astringency. Wonderful

IanGood07 Jun 2005 Was quite happy to sit doing the Su Doku in the Telegraph and Independent all afternoon with pints of Skrim on tap.Good elderflower and flowery hop nose, some fruitiness and a good balanced dry hop finish. Perfect for a session
IanExcellent24 May 2005 Amber/Gold colour. Flowery hop nose, raspberry/strawberry flavours, with more fragrant hops. Good balance. Afine beer with good length with some residual sweetness
IanGood13 May 2005 Copper coloured beer. Perfumed hoppy smell, hops dominate throughout. Good bitter finish, some red fruit malt. Not totally at its best, but still a lovely beer

BlairGood31 Jul 2008 Has the usual maltiness and the slightly metallice edge. Not as great as it shud be though. Still a pleasant brew though.

AndrewGood15 Feb 2007 Nice to see Skrimshander on. Served a bit too cold but it still had good notes of strawberry and vanilla

AndrewExcellent07 Feb 2011 Well it's Skrim isn't it. Good condition. Very drinkable.

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone, Kent

IanGood24 Sep 2009 Tight sparkler, but the biscuit and the fruit come through. Lots of biscuit on the finish. Some slight earthy hop. Pretty good with some raspberry malt fruit evident.

AndrewGood19 Nov 2006 Even though this was the last coughings from the barrel it was good. Much more malt in the flavour than usual and the hops were much more earthy and brown leafy but I put all this down to it being bottom of the barrel.
IanExcellent28 Oct 2006 One of the nicest pints of Skrimshander that I've had in ages. Lovely red fruit malts/rich. But with balancing earthy hop. Classy

The Black Horse, Monks Horton, Kent

CharlesExcellent29 Jul 2009 Wow - this was really lovely. So nice I didn't try any of the others. Badges on the hand pulls but all of the beer is brought from the back room - straight from the barrels.

The Parrot (Young's), Canterbury, Kent

IanNot Tried24 May 2009 Ang really liked this and prefered it to the house ale.

AndrewExcellent27 Feb 2009 What all those in the know were drinking. Reedy body, hints of red fruit, well rounded and very drinkable.
AndrewGood16 Jul 2008 Nice. Good reedy malt with some nice earthy hops and a bit of brown sugar and a hint of caramel. Yeah, nice.

The Rose & Crown, Perry Wood, Kent

AndrewExcellent09 May 2009 Lots of fruity esters in this. Real orange peel and mandarin orange juice. Good earthy (but fuity) hop bite on the finish. Top stuff

IanAcceptable24 Sep 2005 Bit flat. OK, tasted like Skrimshander, but just a bit dull and flat.
BrianExcellent10 Aug 2005 Lovely dark brown bitter, best pint I've had for a while
IanExcellent16 Jul 2005 Although this beer was not on yet, Ruth behind the bar let me have a pint, which was very kind of her. Raspberry fruit and good hops. Gorgeous top of the barrel beer

The Woolpack Inn, Warehorne, Kent

IanAcceptable11 Jul 2008 Definitely not as good as it used to be. Earthy hops, but its lost that raspberry malty fruity edge.

Simple Simon's, Canterbury, Kent

IanNot Tried13 Apr 2008
BrianGood12 Apr 2008 Clear, mid brown/golden. Thin, bubbly disappearing head. A touch too cold to begin with, but a good fruit/malt balance. A bit watery in the mouth and missing the sweet floral notes it used to have.
AndrewAcceptable23 Feb 2008 This wasn't off but it certainly didn't taste like Skrimshander. I don't know if it was bottom of the barrel but it tasted like a cross between Skrimshander and Old Peculier. Shame as Skrimshander's usually lovely
BlairNot Tried09 Feb 2008
AndrewGood15 Dec 2007 Fruity and syrupy with mellow hop finish
BlairExcellent01 Dec 2007 Once again on great form, lovely ale, had to have a second.
AndrewNot Tried31 Oct 2007
BrianNot Tried27 Oct 2007 There were plenty of other beers on as well (five or six), but I can't remember what they were.
AndrewAcceptable18 Aug 2007 Strong resinous bitterness. Some Skrimshander notes but too resinous
IanNot Tried18 Aug 2007
AdrianExcellent17 May 2007 Light and refreshing
BrianAcceptable17 Mar 2007 OK. Too cold to start and a bit flat and lifeless, but there was still a hint of the usual citrus bite and bitter hop. OK but I've had a lot better.
AndrewGood17 Mar 2007 Nice and hoppy with some malt. Must have been the end of the barrel as they took it off soon after they poured mine

Kings Head, Canterbury, Kent

IanGood20 May 2007 Phil Lowry thinks this may have changed slightly. Less sickly mlat and more hoppy maybe on this evidence. Still good.

BrianExcellent24 Aug 2006 Clear, light brown with foamy head. Lovely citrus flavours and subtle bite.
AndrewExcellent07 Jan 2006 Rich lychee and subtle strawberry flavours made this well balanced beer a treat. The finish was good and bitter.
AndrewGood19 Nov 2005 Good bitterness and that rich Hopdaemon taste. Perhaps one for a hot day.
BrianExceptional19 Nov 2005 At risk of repeating myself, but this is great. A full citrus flavour that lingers. Charlie said it had a bit of a haze to it but it seemed perfect to me.
BrianAcceptable23 Sep 2005 Not up to the usual excellent standard, but OK.
BrianExcellent10 Sep 2005 Excellent as usual
AndrewNot Tried04 Sep 2005 Just went off as I walked in and the next barrel wasn't ready yet. Shame.
BrianAcceptable27 Aug 2005 Seemed OK, maybe a little tired, but it turned out to be the last pint from the barrel
BrianExceptional27 Aug 2005 Second pint out of the barrel! Full of flavour, creamy in the mouth and fantastic hoppy bite in the aftertaste. In my opinion, exactly what a Kentish beer, served in the heart of Kent should taste like.
AndrewExcellent27 Aug 2005 Hoppy with a smooth malt finish. Very drinkable
AndrewAcceptable20 Aug 2005 Bit cloudy because he was having problems with the beer engine but it tasted its usual soapy rich hoppiness.
BrianExceptional13 Aug 2005 Fantastic beer, lovely hoppy aroma and full of taste.
AndrewNot Tried08 Aug 2005 Although I didn't have this I had a sip of Jane's and it tasted loverly.

BrianExcellent22 Jul 2006 As things were starting to run out I thought I'd fall back on an old favourite - and as expected it was great. Superb flowery nose, soft / bitter balance in the mouth.
